Artist talk: Wendimagegn Belete
Welcome to an Artist Talk with Wendimagegn Belete!
In connection with the Eckbos Legat Grant Exhibition, we invite you to a series of artist talks with the selected artists, offering a closer insight into their projects and artistic practices.
For the Eckbos Legat Grant Exhibition, Wendimagegn Belete presents Stitched Narratives, a 12-metre-long hand-embroidered artwork that, according to the artist, “reclaims history and memory, challenges colonial archives, and highlights the labour and cultural significance of local artisans.”
The artist talk will be held in English and will last approximately 45 minutes. The event is free and open to everyone.
Visitors are welcome to explore our permanent collection exhibition and the Eckbos Legat Grant Exhibition before the talk begins. Admission to the Vigeland Museum will be free from 4:00 pm on the day of the event.
Wendimagegn Belete (b. 1986, Ethiopia) holds an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tromsø and a BFA from the AAU Alle School of Fine Arts and Design in Ethiopia. Working across installation, textile, video, and painting, he often incorporates found materials and collaborative processes into his practice. His work explores the intersections of memory, history, identity, and spirituality through the lens of epigenetic inheritance, examining how memories and experiences may be transmitted across generations beyond conventional forms of inheritance.
