Norvald Dahl - Solo piano

With suggestive rhythms and sharp harmonies, jazz pianist and Herøy native Norvald Dahl will take us on a hypnotic and beautiful journey via 88 white and black keys. The music is freely improvised over his own compositions and lies at the intersection of jazz, folk tunes, pop, and modern classicism.

"Dahl possesses an advanced sense of sound. When he is accompanied by a piano that gives him all the answers he seeks, 'Flying High' becomes an excursion filled with musical lyricism, where sources of inspiration like Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Helge Lien shine through without being overpowering. Improvisation and jazz are predominant in his expression, but folk music and classical music have clearly also been present for Dahl..."
– Tor Hammerø

In 2019, Dahl released the album Flying High, and has since developed it further while touring both in Norway as well as in Spain, Germany, and France. With support from the Arts Council Norway and FFUK, he will perform a total of 16 concerts in 2024! Here is a recording from a solo concert in Cologne, April 2024: Solo Concert

Pianist Norvald Dahl is from Fosnavåg and has released his fourth album as a musical leader. In 2019, he completed a Master's degree in jazz piano at the Norwegian Academy of Music, having previously studied jazz at both the Rogaland Conservatory of Music and NTNU-Trondheim. In recent years, Dahl has been an active freelance musician and educator and has also led several exciting musical projects of both national and international scope. He is currently involved in the trio "Pandemic Solution," alongside Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Håkon Mjåset Johansen, and has just released his debut album Afterdog on his own label, Blåmann Records.
