Exhibition opening: Hanne Friis – Circulation

Welcome to the exhibition opening on Thursday 20 October at 18-20!

In the exhibition Circulation, Hanne Friis shows a series of newly produced works that relate both visually and thematically to Gustav Vigeland and the Vigeland Museum. The title Circulation joins the series of previous titles that deal with movement, circles, cycles, spirals and transformation. In this context, the title points to a movement in a closed form.

The works in the exhibition are made in various plastic qualities such as latex, skai and vinyl; from white to black, glossy to matt, transparent, colour-intensive and metallic. The materials and colours are played against Vigeland's sculptures as they approach bronze, plaster and stone. Other times, the textile sculptures serve as a contrast to the existing in both colour and materiality. In this way, the works thematize the conflict between high and low culture, illusion and reality.

Hanne Friis (b. 1972) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim, and is known for her monumental sculptural textile works. Friis has a large exhibition activity, and her works have been purchased for several private and public collections.
