"Shards of heavy-hard" consists of a series of scenographic environments made to take the viewers on a sensory journey. Material, rhythmic and textural assemblages are made to address the visitors body, allowing us to rehearse again and again distinctive modes of tuning in.
Apichaya (Piya) Wanthiang (TH/BE, living in Oslo, Norway) holds a BA from Sint-Lukas, Brussels, and an MA in Fine Art from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KHiB). Wanthiang constructs immersive environments to explore how spatial conditions influence perception, behaviour, and social interaction. Working primarily with painting and installation, her practice incorporates light, sound, and text to address the viewer’s body directly. Through multisensory engagement, she activates somatic knowledge and seeks to counterbalance the primacy of vision and cognition.
Wanthiang has exhibited widely in Norway, with solo exhibitions at the Munch Museum, the Kristiansand Kunsthall, and Storage, Bangkok. She has worked part-time as Assistant Professor at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art and at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD), University of Bergen. Wanthiang has also served on the boards of LNM and UKS.
