Tønnesen Aa73x50x40cm

Camilla Collett, 1910

In 1905, a competition was announced for a monument to Camilla Collett. Ingebrigt Vik won the competition, Gunnar Utsond came in second place – and Ambrosia Tønnesen in third. However, none of the proposals were recommended for execution. In 1908, Gustav Vigeland was invited to take part in a new competition, which he won. Tønnesen’s proposal, however, was not forgotten. Anna Børs commissioned it in marble on a smaller scale, and in 1910 this sculpture was presented to the “Women’s Reading Association.” Today, it is part of the National Library’s collection.
