Nordic Art History Festival 2025
The Nordic Institute of Art invites you to Norway’s first art history festival, taking place in Oslo from October 16 to 18, 2025. Over three days, leading scholars and curators will gather for lectures, conversations, and guided tours of exhibitions and art historically significant sites.
On Saturday, October 18, the festival comes to the Vigeland Museum.
The festival is organized by the Nordic Institute of Art in collaboration with Eckbos Legat and the Vigeland Museum, with support from AXA Art Insurance and the Bergslien Art Museum. Contributing institutions include the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the National Museum in Oslo, MUNCH, KODE in Bergen, Stavanger Art Museum, Lillehammer Art Museum, and the Royal Collections, as well as the publishers Uten Tittel, Orfeus, and Arnoldsche.
The program highlights both historical and contemporary themes – from Brynjulf Bergslien’s Karl Johan monument and the rediscovered Baroque painter Clara Peeters, to new perspectives on Munch and the National Museum’s collection.
Speakers include Éric de Chassey, Director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris; Karin Sidén, Director of Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde in Stockholm; Jorunn Veiteberg; and Linda Hinners, Curator at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. Lectures will be held in English on the opening day, and in Norwegian/Scandinavian on the following days.
