–Ambrosia Tønnesen was Norway’s first female sculptor, making an unconventional career choice for her time. She had a prolific output in the late 19th century, exhibited in Paris, and received significant public art commissions in Norway.
In the autumn of 2024, a major exhibition of Tønnesen’s works will be shown at Kode in Bergen. In the autumn of 2025, the exhibition will travel to the Vigeland Museum in Oslo. This will be the first solo exhibition dedicated to Ambrosia Tønnesen in Oslo. The exhibition aims to engage a wide audience and highlight Tønnesen’s pioneering role as a female sculptor.
