Ellinor Aurora Aasgaard og Zayne Armstrong
Aasgaard and Armstrong have designed The Grind, an installation of kinetic sculptures that satirizes what they describe as "the hyper-commodified, mass-mediated and performance-driven conditions in which we live". The project uses animatronics to replace both the worker and the consumer in the experience economy, with elements that in terms of form reflect on contemporary café culture.
The artist duo has previously made the film and installation Days (2020-2022). The film is an experimental soap opera that explores the genre as a phenomenon and what happens when so-called low culture is used to portray the cultural class; the class expected to produce high culture. The work was highlighted as one of the year's most memorable exhibitions in 2020 in Kunstkritikk. It says that "the drama that unfolds is comical, but sad. It gives a look at the striving of the individual in a world that doesn't have much to offer anymore."
Mechanisms developed and made together with Daryl Armstrong. The artists would like to thank Dorian Cani, Einar Stange AS, Elizabeth Ravn, Littleton Odom and Una Gjerde.
