In the summer of 2025, the Vigeland Museum will present an exhibition featuring Emily Gernild and Sonja Ferlov Mancoba – an exciting encounter between two Danish artists from two different eras.

Sonja Ferlov Mancoba (1911–1984) was a pioneer of modernist sculpture. Her abstract sculptures were clearly inspired by African and Mexican art.

Emily Gernild (b. 1985) is a contemporary artist who works primarily with painting, focusing on still lifes and interiors. Her motifs often appear abstracted and fragmented. In this exhibition, Gernild seeks to challenge herself and the viewer by engaging in dialogue with Ferlov Mancoba. The exhibition offers a meeting of the flat, the spatial, and the sculptural.
